IntroducingThe MoonSwatch Mission To Earthphase Moonshine Gold Edition Continues With Snoopy And The Harvest Moon

Roses are red, violets are blue, your eyes aren't deceiving you, it's MoonSwatch déjà vu.

What We Know

Just last month, I wrote in my introduction of the first Mission To Earthphase Moonshine Gold that it was fifteen months since we saw Snoopy-themed MoonSwatches introduced to the world. But now, it looks like after those fifteen months, Swatch might be letting these Snoopy designs flow.

Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit here, mostly because this new MoonSwatch isn't another new Snoopy design. In fact, it's actually almost identical compared to last month's version. The only difference on this one is a new popcorn motif on one of the Moonshine Gold-coated moonphase discs. Looking closely, the fish net of the Sturgeon Moon is gone, this time replaced with engraved artwork of a box of popcorn, featuring a repeating corn kernel motif behind it.

I can't stress enough that everything else is really identical to last month's edition, but to save you from having to go to my previous introduction article, here's a quick summary. We have a navy blue Bioceramic case, which also features the new rubber strap/velcro design. The dial features Snoopy and Woodstock gazing at the Earth, as indicated by the Earthphase, set against a starry fauxventurine background. Next to it is the moonphase, featuring the titular Moonshine Gold-coated discs. In addition to the backgrounds of the complication discs, the minutes and seconds track, as well as the handset, get the starry-metallic-blue treatment. The secret UV-illuminated message remains, with a speech bubble appearing above Snoopy saying "I beat everybody…" as a hidden touch.

The Mission To Earthphase Moonshine Gold Harvest Moon edition will be available only on September's full moon on September 8th at select swatch stores for $450.

What We Think

The popcorn design for the Moon disc couldn't be more appropriate, because that's what I'll be grabbing when I read the comments for this one. It's clear now that Swatch is drawing from its first full moon playbook, when they released a year's worth of special day-of MoonSwatches with subtle modifications to a Moonshine Gold-coated chronograph seconds hand. We can safely assume that we'll be seeing these new Mission To Earthphase models quite often, and on a very predictable schedule.

The biggest question that I'm certain folks are wondering is how this strategy is paying off for Swatch. Even though many vocal watch enthusiasts love to proclaim the death of the MoonSwatch, I think this death is greatly exaggerated — after all, with this last Snoopy edition, we saw lines still hit Swatch stores at early hours of the day, even with the dramatic, sudden price increase due to Swiss tariffs, which took the originally $380 watch to $400 and then to $450 the day of launch. Seemingly, that new price is here to stay.

Snoopy Sturgeon Wristshot

Last month's Sturgeon Moon-themed launch. From afar, these look identical.

Do I think the MoonSwatch is a reasonable buy at $450? Not really, in the same way that many brands no longer represent a compelling proposition after the tariff hit. However, this is the new reality of business, unfortunately, and it appears that whatever quantity of watches Swatch delivered to each store last time all sold out quickly regardless. Still, it is disappointing to think that there could be people who go to multiple of these launches and still fail to secure anything, and I'm curious if there will be diminishing line-campers as the full moons progress.

At the end of the day, the design is cute, and the MoonSwatch still speaks to a significantly larger swath of the public than I think we as watch enthusiasts give credit for. And while most of us are probably facing limited-edition fatigue from these releases (I really wish that they had released a non-Moonshine-Gold standard edition for the masses before doing these limited runs), I think it's clear that Swatch is really targeting a different market segment when it comes to drumming up this monthly chatter.
