What We Know
Today's release of a new Modello Quattro U4S‑T‑SPW rounds out a trio of collaborative efforts between collector William Massena's Massena LAB brand and Italian minimalist watch company Unimatic, each with a NASA-themed design. The first two, the Artemis and Artemis II, featured orange Cerakote-covered cases (first in titanium with a GMT, then a time-only in stainless steel) while the new Modello Quattro U4S‑T‑SPW takes a much more traditional approach to NASA-inspired design, focusing on a white colorway with a single red accent, NASA branding, and—for the first time—a meteorite dial.
Taking a page out of their own book with a watch that Unimatic made for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the new watch features a titanium case (rather than stainless steel, in that previous instance) but coated in Cerakote H140 bright‑white coating, measuring 40mm in diameter, with crown guards around the 8mm-diameter Cerakote-coated crown. The big feature here is that Widmanstätten patterned a genuine meteorite dial, devoid of printing. In fact, the Super‑LumiNova BG W9 markers and NASA worm logo are printed directly onto the 2.8mm flat sapphire crystal to create a floating effect. The hands are skeletonized, and the seconds hand has a red tip. The case has 300m of water resistance.
The caseback is engraved with a detailed meteor comparison chart (for those frequent occasions when you might need to use it), underneath which is the Sellita SW200-1 movement with a 38-hour power reserve. The watch comes with a two-piece quick-release strap featuring a titanium Cerakote-coated buckle, along with a cool-gray TPU strap, and is limited to 60 individually numbered pieces. The price is €2,500.
What We Think
This is a super cool-looking watch that, to my taste, would be better without the NASA branding, which does very little for me. However, that's not a dealbreaker for me, and I can understand how it fits within the unified design language of the trilogy. The white Cerakote case reminds me of the white Extravehicular Mobility Unit suits that come to mind when you close your eyes.
I thought this would be a watch I'd like to own and wear; however, the price is tough to swallow. The Unimatic x Massena Lab U1-SPG "NASA Artemis" model, released earlier this year, was priced at $1,295 and featured a Seiko NH34A movement. As TanTan noted in that review, even that price was steep for what you received. At €2,500, this new model costs nearly double that of a time-only watch. To put this in perspective, Unimatic's recently released 600m diver retails for €1,500 and uses the same Sellita SW200-1 movement, which means you're paying an additional €1,000 premium specifically for the Cerakote coating and meteorite dial. While these are premium features, other brands have demonstrated that meteorite dials no longer command such significant price increases.
