What We Know
Announced within the broader scope of New York Watch Week, Serica has unveiled the brand's first extension of the Parade, the 1174 "Linen". Following earlier Parade editions, this new release introduces a pair of fresh dial textures into Serica's sporty, shaped-case dress watch. Inspired by cross-weave fabric, the new Parade models are rendered in your choice of Slate and Tobacco.
These new iterations are essentially just new dials, so the Linen Parade models offer the same physical form as the preceding launch models, measuring 35 mm × 41 mm × 8.2 mm and featuring a lug-less stainless-steel "stadium" case shape. Despite its slim profile, the 1174 offers 100m of water resistance, achieved thanks to a design in which screws pass through the entire case and connect to the underside of the bezel. The bezel and vertically brushed, and both of the dials (brown for Tobacco and blue for Slate) are largely text-free and set with tiny cylindrical hour markers.
As with the rest of the Parade line, the Linen models are powered by the Swiss-made Soprod M100 automatic with Côtes de Genève decoration. The setup offers only hours and minutes, with no date or even a seconds hand to clutter its oblong aperture. The movement offers 42 hours of power reserve and ticks at 4 Hz, and you can find the full specs below.
The Serica Ref. 1174 Parade "Linen" is priced at $1,790 and is available now through Serica's website and select retail partners. Each colorway comes with a matching alligator-embossed calf strap and Serica's Parade pin buckle.
What We Think
As a fan of the sizing, spec, and design of the original Parade, I think it's hard to argue with the slightly more casual appeal of the linen dial (I say as an owner of a linen dial Datejust). The distinctive case works like a frame for the Parade's dial, and I think most brands would want to exploit that relationship in a way that lacks Serica's focus on details and a trim product line-up.
For just under $1,800 and with a Swiss automatic movement, the pricing is directly in line with what we've come to expect from Serica and I think these models will prove quite popular and do a good job of offering a somewhat less dressy take on the format while still feeling special as alternatives to the original Parade models released in November of last year.
