The Tudor Pro Cycling Team will make its Tour de France debut next week, marking a historic milestone for the young squad. The race will also see team owner and former professional cyclist Fabian Cancellara return to the Tour for the first time since 2016, though now in his new role behind the scenes. To herald Cancellara's triumphant return to cycling's most prestigious race, Tudor is releasing the limited edition FXD Chrono "Yellow'' with color accents that nod to the 'Maillot Jaune' (yellow jersey) worn by the race leader. 

The watch is, for all intents and purposes, a new colorway on a carbon chronograph watch we've seen before - Tudor's Pelagos FXD Chrono, with a tachymeter bezel specifically designed for timing a cyclist's speed. The latest limited-edition Tudor cycling chrono features the same 45-minute timer and date window at 6, along with a 60-second subdial, the same titanium screw-down crown and pushers, and the same 43-millimeter carbon composite case size with fixed lugs. 

However, this edition features yellow accents on both the dial and the fabric strap, continuing the trend that started with Tudor's special Giro d'Italia edition released this year, in just 300 pieces, featuring pink accents to mirror the color worn by the leader and winner of that grand tour.  

The Pelagos FXD 'Yellow' features the brand's signature 'snowflake' lumed hour hand and square lume plots, marking the light of Tudor Pro Cycling and its owner, Cancellara's, debut on the biggest bike stage of all. Started just three years ago, the team is making its mark, taking stage wins at many of the major races in Europe this year including Paris-Nice and a Tour of the Alps General Classification victory for team rider Michael Storer to go with a top 10 in the General Classification he snagged at the Giro along with stage podiums for teammates Maikel Zijlaard and Florian Stork. Tudor will produce just 300 Pelagos FXD Chrono "Yellow" models, priced at $5,600 each. 

We were fortunate enough to see the watch on the day of its release, and it continues the rather novel experiment of a cycling-specific chronograph timer in a relatively light, yet easy-to-read and large carbon composite case inspired by the same material used on the fastest race bikes. If you appreciate the Tour de France and the daily celebration of cycling competition and French cycling culture, the near-month-long event brings, this is certainly a way to pledge your allegiance to the tribe. Of course, unlike at the Giro, where Tudor is the official timekeeping sponsor, at the TDF that distinction is currently held by another brand, Tissot. 

With this limited edition, Tudor is again making a not-so-subtle statement that it wants to be the brand associated with the sport. This is the second cycling-themed limited-edition carbon chronograph from Tudor in the last two months, and suddenly it feels like the Rolex sister brand is leaning heavily on small-batch special editions to keep interest piqued and supply limited. Still, there's no bigger race in cycling than the Tour de France, and the Tudor Pro Cycling Team's debut and return of owner Fabian Cancellara to the big race is too significant to ignore without a special timepiece to mark the occasion. Cancellara was a beast during his time as a rider at the TDF, having worn the yellow jersey for a total of 29 days during his career that also included eight TDF stage victories.
