IntroducingHamilton's New Khaki Field Mechanical Might Be A Perfect Push For A Trip To Switzerland

This might be the most specific and out-of-the-way watch I've covered, but knowing how much folks love Hamilton, rare finds, and an excuse to travel, let me introduce you to four special editions of Khaki Field Mechanical timepieces from Hamilton available only at their global stores in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Lancaster, and Zermatt. Today's release is the Zermatt boutique exclusive, a 38mm Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical inspired by the Swiss Alps and the famous Matterhorn. The new release features a textured dial that shifts with the light, imitating the changing sunlight and its effects on the alpine mountains.

Measuring 38mm by 9.2mm with a manually-wound H-50 movement, featuring 80 hours of power reserve protected by 50m of water resistance in a stainless steel case, this is the kind of Khaki Field Mechanical you're used to, but with Zermatt-inspired touches. In addition to the ice blue textured dial with hands and hour markers featuring Super-LumiNova, the caseback has an engraving of the Matterhorn. 

The watch comes delivered on a specially designed blue and white striped NATO strap, representing the contrasting shades of snow in bright sunlight and shadow on the mountains. Yes, you can only buy one in Zermatt, but if you do find yourself there, the watch is reasonably priced at CHF 595.

While it seems a bit extreme to imagine popping off to Zermatt from New York, where I write this story, to pick up a Hamilton, the small town of around 6,000 people reportedly hosts over 2 million visitors annually. That means there will be far more people visiting the Hamilton store in Zermatt than would typically visit Grand Seiko's remote workshop to buy the SBGH283 Studio Shizukuishi Exclusive.
