While the vast majority of watches are mass-produced for mass consumption, even at the high end, a few independent watchmakers continue to produce individualized timepieces in very small numbers for a selective global audience. The Grönefeld brothers, Maximilian Büsser, and Roger W. Smith each represent particular approaches to this most challenging path, and will discuss the difficulties and rewards of their work, as well as share their thoughts for the future of independent watchmaking in a universe increasingly dominated by big group brands.
